In  India, there exists an examination that many consider the toughest of all – the UPSC Civil Services Exam. Each year, thousands upon thousands of hopefuls take on the challenge, aspiring to become distinguished IAS officers. Yet, only a handful emerge victorious, and one such success story that stands out is that of Rukmuni Riyar. What’s truly astonishing is that Rukmuni, despite facing failure during her school years, managed to conquer this daunting exam in her very first attempt.

Rukmuni Riyar, a name now associated with triumph, didn’t always shine academically. Her journey began in Gurdaspur, where she embarked on her schooling. However, things didn’t go smoothly. During her sixth standard examination, she faced disappointment as she couldn’t clear the exams. But, little did she know that this setback was just a stepping stone towards her eventual success.

Her school years were marked by struggles, and Rukmuni was not exactly a standout student. But her story doesn’t end there – it’s only the beginning. After completing her school education in Gurdaspur, Rukmuni’s educational path led her to Circuit Harry School in Dalhousie, where she entered the fourth standard. These early challenges laid the foundation for the incredible determination that would come to define her future.

As Rukmuni’s journey continued, she found herself pursuing higher education at the renowned Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Mumbai. It was here that she embarked on a journey of personal growth and development. Armed with resilience and a hunger for knowledge, Rukmuni earned her Master’s degree in Social Sciences. This accomplishment was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her goals.

Following her academic success, Rukmuni Riyar delved into the world of NGOs. She interned at Ashoda in Mysore and Annapurna Mahila Mandal in Mumbai, where she worked passionately for causes close to her heart. It was during this time that the spark of civil service ignited within her. The challenges and triumphs she encountered while working for the betterment of society opened her eyes to the potential impact she could have as a civil servant.

In the year 2011, the culmination of Rukmuni’s efforts came to fruition. With determination and a strong will, she appeared for the UPSC examination – a true test of her knowledge, skills, and resilience. Miraculously, in her very first attempt, Rukmuni Riyar emerged victorious, successfully clearing the UPSC examination that had stumped many.

Rukmuni’s journey from a struggling school student to a triumphant IAS officer serves as an inspiring tale of how determination, perseverance, and hard work can lead to incredible achievements.
