Sreenath K, a former porter at Ernakulam railway station in Kerala, achieved his dream of becoming an IAS officer through sheer determination and resourcefulness. Despite facing financial constraints, Sreenath’s unwavering commitment to providing his daughter with a better future led him on a remarkable journey from coolie to civil servant.
Sreenath, a resident of Munnar and the sole breadwinner of his middle-class family, initially struggled to make ends meet as a porter. However, he soon realized that his income was insufficient to ensure a prosperous future for his one-year-old daughter. Determined to provide her with quality education and opportunities he never had, Sreenath decided to pursue a career in the civil services.
With limited financial resources and no access to expensive coaching classes, Sreenath turned to a unique solution. Leveraging the free WiFi available at the railway station, he used his mobile phone as a tool for self-study. His mobile became his library, syllabus, study material, and practice platform. Undeterred by his demanding job as a porter, he dedicated his nights to rigorous study sessions.
Sreenath’s relentless dedication eventually paid off when he successfully cleared the written exam of the Kerala Public Service Exam (KPSC). However, his journey to becoming an IAS officer was far from easy, and it took him four attempts to achieve this remarkable feat. Throughout his arduous pursuit, he never abandoned his job as a porter, fully aware that it was essential to support his family.
Sreenath K’s story serves as a powerful inspiration for those who face adversity and limited opportunities but aspire to take control of their destinies. His unwavering commitment, innovative approach, and relentless perseverance prove that with determination, even the most challenging dreams can be realized. Sreenath’s life is a testament to the transformative power of education and the human spirit’s resilience in the face of adversity.
