Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the Biju Janata Dal’s (BJD) Foundation Day, party president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik sent a strong message to his detractors, asserting that the party is here to stay for another century. Addressing party workers, Patnaik dismissed rumors of a split within the party as “malicious propaganda.”
“Some people are spreading misinformation that the BJD will break apart or cease to exist. Do not pay attention to such rumors. BJD will last for a hundred years and continue to serve the people,” Patnaik stated.
Odisha’s Golden Period (2000–2024)
Reflecting on his tenure, Patnaik described the years between 2000 and 2024 as the “Golden Period” of Odisha’s development. He emphasized that the party has always functioned on the ideals of Biju Babu, with the mantra of “Service, Self-respect, and Struggle.”
“Development is our identity. We have given Odisha a new global recognition. We empowered women, increased the income of farmers, and provided transformative healthcare through schemes like BSKAY. We strengthened the state’s economy, attracted massive investments, and created employment opportunities for the youth,” he added.
Attack on the Current Government
The BJD supremo launched a scathing attack on the current “Double Engine” government (BJP) in the state, questioning its performance over the last 18 months. He alleged that despite the tall claims of the government, development is nowhere to be seen.
“Where is the development? Farmers are not getting their dues, and ‘mandis’ (paddy procurement centers) are not opening on time. Our mothers and sisters are facing hardships. In these 18 months of the Double Engine government, progress has come to a standstill,” Patnaik remarked.
Concerns over Law and Order
Expressing grave concern over the state of security in Odisha, Patnaik said that the law and order situation has deteriorated significantly. He highlighted the rising atrocities against women and noted that even minor girls are not safe in the state. “It feels as though there is no government functioning in Odisha,” he said.
Concluding his address, he reassured party members that the BJD remains a formidable force and will continue to stand by the people of Odisha for decades to come.
