New Delhi, 8/1 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of Agnivesh Agarwal, the son of Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal. The 49-year-old industrialist passed away in New York on Wednesday following a sudden cardiac arrest, a tragedy that has sent shockwaves through India’s corporate and political circles.

**A Tragedy in New York**
Agnivesh Agarwal had been undergoing treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York after sustaining injuries in a skiing accident in the United States. According to the family, he was on the path to recovery when his condition suddenly deteriorated.
Anil Agarwal, the billionaire mining magnate, shared the devastating news with the world, calling it the “darkest day” of his life. “We believed the worst was behind us. But fate had other plans, and a sudden cardiac arrest snatched our son away from us,” he wrote. The Vedanta Chairman described the pain of a parent bidding goodbye to a child as indescribable, stating, “A son is not meant to leave before his father. This loss has shattered us in ways we are still trying to comprehend.”
**A Legacy of Leadership and Compassion**
Born in Patna on June 3, 1976, Agnivesh Agarwal was a significant figure in the global metals and mining sector. An alumnus of the prestigious Mayo College in Ajmer, he carved his own niche in the business world. He established Fujairah Gold in the UAE, which grew into a reputable metal refinery, and served as the Chairman of Hindustan Zinc, one of India’s leading mining entities, from 2005 to 2019. At the time of his passing, he was the Chairman of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL), a Vedanta subsidiary.
Beyond his corporate titles, his father remembered him as a “sportsman, a musician, and a leader” who remained “simple, warm, and deeply human.” Anil Agarwal recalled his son’s vision for a self-reliant India and his commitment to social causes, noting that Agnivesh often questioned why India should lag behind other nations.
