Navsari, 16/1 : In a decisive move to bridge the urban-rural divide and enhance the quality of life for its citizens, the Navsari Municipal Corporation (NMC) today announced the launch of a massive ₹112 crore infrastructure project. This ambitious initiative is set to revolutionize the water supply and drainage networks across the city’s newly merged peripheral zones, directly benefiting over 25,000 residents who have long grappled with civic deficits.
The project, unveiled on Friday, targets the specific needs of the areas that were integrated into the corporation following its upgrade from a municipality in January 2025. These areas include the former Navsari-Vijalpore Municipality limits and the four adjoining villages of Eru, Dharagiri, Dantej, and Hansapore. For years, these peri-urban localities have faced persistent challenges, ranging from erratic drinking water supply to the complete absence of an underground drainage system, leading to sanitation and health hazards.
According to the official release from the civic body, the ₹112 crore investment will be utilized to construct a comprehensive and modern network in a phased manner. The scope of work is extensive, covering the installation of new water supply pipelines and a robust drainage grid. Critical infrastructure components such as overhead tanks, underground sumps, and dedicated drainage pumping stations are central to the plan. Furthermore, the corporation will establish new sewage treatment plants (STPs) and water treatment facilities to ensure that the water reaching households is safe and that waste is processed in an environmentally compliant manner.
Navsari Municipal Commissioner Dev Chaudhary highlighted the administration’s commitment to the ‘Ease of Living’ vision championed by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Chaudhary stated that the corporation’s primary agenda for the new year is to ensure that every resident, regardless of their location within the city limits, has access to basic yet essential amenities. He emphasized that the project is being implemented on a strict timeline to provide immediate relief to the populace.
Beyond the pipes and pumps, the project is expected to have a profound social impact. Health officials anticipate a significant reduction in waterborne diseases, particularly among children, which have been a recurring concern in these neighborhoods due to open drainage and contamination. The upgrade also promises to pave the way for further development, with plans already in motion to improve roads, street lighting, and recreational spaces like gardens and ponds in these sectors.
This infrastructure push marks one of the first major big-ticket projects undertaken by the NMC since its formation a year ago. By prioritizing the foundational elements of urban living, Navsari is setting a precedent for how expanding cities can successfully integrate and uplift their growing populations.
