In the picturesque village of Chikli, a heartwarming tale unfolds as a group of deer fearlessly prance through the village, seeking shelter and sustenance. Chikli, also known as the “Village of the Deer,” has become a safe haven for these majestic creatures, thanks to the unwavering dedication of its villagers.

The deer gather at the village’s edge, coming together for their nightly grazing ritual. They move with grace and confidence, running and leaping, unafraid of their surroundings. The villagers have opened their hearts and arms to these enchanting visitors, protecting them like their own.

As dawn breaks, the deer herds come bounding into the village, eager to explore and graze on the bountiful meadows. Throughout the day, the villagers watch over them with utmost care, ensuring their safety from predators and any potential threats.

Chikli boasts the lush Chakidimwira forest, providing abundant food for the deer. Despite this natural abundance, the deer choose to visit the village, forging a bond with its people. They roam freely, feasting on crops like biri dal and mung dal, thoughtfully sown by the villagers after the harvest. It’s a heartwarming sight to witness the deer enjoying the village’s hospitality, even relishing the salt floor provided for them.

To further extend their hospitality, the villagers have dug ponds at the village’s heart, providing fresh water for the deer to quench their thirst. They have also constructed a watchtower, from which they vigilantly guard their beloved guests, with the assistance of the caring forest department staff.

Uttam Swain, a villager, joyfully shared, “The deer have been gracing our village for many years, and it brings us immense joy to protect and cherish their presence. The watchtower and provisions for water ensure their safety, and tourists from far and wide come to witness this magical bond between our village and these gentle creatures.”

Bhaskar Goud, another villager, expressed his pride in the community’s efforts, saying, “For four years, we have toiled to create a safe haven for the deer. Planting biri, mung, and mandia has attracted them to our village, and they roam fearlessly, knowing they are protected.”

The story of Chikli Village and its fearless deer captivates the hearts of those who hear it. It exemplifies the power of compassion and empathy, where humans and animals coexist harmoniously. As the sun sets, the deer bid farewell to the village, but their bond with the villagers remains forever etched in the annals of Chikli’s history – a testament to the beauty of selfless love and harmony with nature.
