Jammu-Kashmir: The ongoing heavy snowfall in Jammu has led authorities to suspend the Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage until further notice. National highways, including the Jammu-Srinagar route, and other roads have been closed to traffic. Schools in hilly districts have also been ordered to remain shut. Pilgrims have been advised to stay at base camps, and no one will be allowed to proceed towards the temple until conditions improve.
In addition, all flights in and out of Kashmir have been canceled due to unsafe runway conditions caused by the snow. Airport and airline authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have assured that flight operations will resume once the runways are declared safe. Travelers have been advised not to attempt journeys until roads are cleared and declared secure.
To assist stranded travelers, the police have activated helpline numbers across district headquarters. The meteorological department has forecast that the severe snow conditions are likely to persist until Friday evening, and authorities continue to review safety measures for both road and air travel.
