The incident occurred at the Punanga Shiva Temple under Sadar police station limits in Jagatsinghpur district. The priest, Om Prakash Panda, was a regular servitor known for his deep devotion and disciplined rituals. He had arrived at the temple before dawn as usual but never returned home.
Concerned locals later discovered him collapsed near the sanctum. When he failed to respond, his family and police were informed. Authorities have registered an Unnatural Death (UD) case and sent the body for post-mortem examination to determine whether the cause was medical or accidental.
