Delhi, 5/1 : A 25-year-old man, identified as Yashveer Singh, allegedly murdered his mother, sister, and younger brother in East Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar area on Monday before surrendering himself at the local police station. The shocking incident, believed to be driven by severe financial difficulties, has sent ripples through the community.
According to police reports, Yashveer Singh walked into the Laxmi Nagar Police Station around 5:00 PM on January 5, 2026, and confessed to the killings. He informed officers that he had taken the lives of his 46-year-old mother, Kavita; his 24-year-old sister, Meghna; and his 14-year-old brother, Mukul.
Upon receiving Singh’s confession, police teams were immediately dispatched to his residence in the Mangal Bazar area of Laxmi Nagar. There, they discovered the bodies of the three family members inside the house, confirming the tragic account.
Initial questioning revealed that Yashveer Singh cited overwhelming financial stress as the primary motive behind the heinous act. Further details from the investigation indicate that Singh, who had previously worked as a private driver, had been unemployed for the past six months. His father, a truck driver, had also reportedly not resided at the family home for a similar duration, adding to the family’s financial strain.
Reports also suggest a disturbing account of the method used in the crime. Singh allegedly collected dhatura seeds from a plant near the Yamuna Bank Metro Station on Monday morning. He then reportedly prepared ‘dhatura-laced’ laddoos (sweets) by mixing the seeds with flour and sugar, which he fed to his family members. After they lost consciousness, he allegedly proceeded to strangle them.
The police have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation to establish the exact sequence of events and gather all supporting evidence. The community in Laxmi Nagar has expressed profound shock and grief over the triple murder. Authorities have stated that further details will be released as the inquiry progresses.
