Sai Prakash Mohanty, a graduate in Automobile Engineering hailing from Baripda, Odisha, initially embarked on a quest for a lucrative job, driven by the hope of securing a promising future. However, fate had a different path in store for him, one that would lead to a remarkable transformation in his life and the lives of countless others.
While Sai Prakash Mohanty was strolling through his village, he had a serendipitous encounter that altered the course of his life forever. Instead of pursuing a conventional career, he chose to build something extraordinary—a school. This school, nestled amidst the humble surroundings of the village, would go on to become a beacon of hope for the underprivileged children dwelling in the slums, offering them not only education but a holistic nurturing of their talents.
Sai Prakash Mohanty was deeply moved by the potential he saw within these children who were trapped in the clutches of poverty. Despite their hardships, he recognized their innate wisdom and untapped potential. These children, due to their lack of awareness or their families’ precarious financial situations, had been deprived of the opportunity to attend school. Sai Prakash Mohanty was determined to change this and shape a brighter future for these children.
With unwavering commitment, Sai Prakash Mohanty ventured into the slum area. Sometimes, he would sit under a tree, and at other times, he would find shelter on someone’s veranda. There, he began imparting knowledge not only to the young children but also to the illiterate elders of the community. His dedication was not limited to the young minds; he ignited the flames of education in the older generation as well. Thanks to his efforts, these once-illiterate elders can now read books and sign their names. It was during this transformative period that Sai Prakash Mohanty earned the endearing title of “Sai Sir.”
The impact of Sai Sir’s tireless efforts did not go unnoticed. His altruism and dedication to education caught the attention of intellectuals and dignitaries who were inspired to lend their support. Buoyed by their assistance, Sai Sir took a monumental step forward by establishing the “Abhiram Paramhansa Veda Vedanta School” for the children’s education. This school, reminiscent of a government institution, is adorned with vibrant wall paintings that showcase the nation’s great public heroes, freedom fighters, alphabets, and animals.
From this school, Sai Sir began his mission of enlightenment. Over 40 children now have the privilege of receiving an education free of charge. Sai Sir’s teachings extend beyond conventional subjects; he imparts music, yoga, social studies, and Vedas to enrich their holistic development. The results are remarkable, as the children are now able to effortlessly recite hymns and verses.
The students of this institute have not only excelled academically but have also made their mark in various district and state-level competitions, earning numerous accolades. What makes Sai Sir’s work even more exceptional is the profound connection he shares with his students. They affectionately refer to him as “father,” a testament to the deep bond and responsibility he has undertaken for hundreds of children.
At 34 years of age, Sai Prakash Mohanty has become a father figure, mentor, and beacon of hope for countless children who might have otherwise remained trapped in the cycle of poverty and ignorance. His selfless dedication to education has lit the lamp of knowledge in the hearts of these young souls, illuminating their path to a brighter future.
