Astonishingly, a single fallen coconut front can yield up to 200 of these innovative straws. Using a chemical-free process, Saji’s patented multi-layered straws possess natural anti-fungal and hydrophobic properties on their outer and inner walls. Not only are they 100 percent biodegradable, but they can also be used in any beverage for up to three hours. Such an eco-conscious and practical solution comes at an affordable price of Rs 5 per straw.
Sunbird Straws has garnered global recognition and received orders for over 20 million straws from more than 10 countries. The impact of their efforts stretches far beyond environmental conservation; the venture also empowers women in rural regions. Saji has provided employment opportunities to 100 talented and resilient rural women from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, who play a crucial role in producing these eco-friendly straws.
